Long Boarding on Abandoned Tennis Courts

My roommate and I discovered some semi-abandoned tennis courts (http://bit.ly/aQ9vYd) while we were long boarding (gps log: http://bit.ly/9VbKRN). There are no nets on the courts right now, so its just a big open area, smooth, flat, soft, and quiet (great for long boarding).

Donated Tables and Chairs

I donated 12 tables and 24 chairs to Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center this morning.

When I bought my house a few years ago the basement was full of these nice (but dirty) black bar tables and chairs.  They were supposed to get rid of them before I moved in, but they didn't.  I couldn't find anybody that wanted them.  I wasn't trying to sell them or anything, although I bet I could have.  I didn't try very hard to get rid of them, but I finally found some one who could use them. The Mendelssohn Center is just across the river, about 1/2 mile from my house.  It took 3 trips to move the the 12 tables and 24 chairs.

Here is the first load with all the tables (and a couple chairs).

This is the second load with 8 chairs

We weren't sure how many chairs they needed or wanted, so we only took 8.  They ended up wanting 2 chairs for each table, so the last trip was 14 chairs.  Heres most of the chairs in the garage after the move

They are pretty nice after you clean 'em (these aren't clean yet).

This cleared out a room and a half of tables and chairs in my basement, so I finally took some time and cleaned up the junk and organized some stuff down there.  I've been putting that off for 2 years :) so it feels good to finally get some of it done.

The last picture is showing my location at the hashpoint. The second to last picture is nature stuck in my jeans.

This is a screenshot of the track log where I turned around to help the old lady with a flat tire. She was at the intersection (the yellow wrench). I was heading south, through the intersection, turned around and headed north, asked if she needed help, then went north and turned around again and continued on my way heading south again.

My second geohash expedition!

Here is a screenshot of the GPS track log from in the field. You can see we went to the house, and then swerved throug the field to the hashpoint.

First Geohash!

My first geohash expedition!

It was a cold and foggy night (really foggy). We left at 11pm, excited for our first geohash expedition.

I think we averaged 30mph off the highway because it was so foggy. On the way to the hashpoint, we almost hit a raccoon, and then we did hit an opossum (but we did try to miss it). On the way back we almost hit a raccoon (we think it was the same one).

We were using our phones for navigation but kept loosing service. The GPS seemed to work, but there was no map data (as you can see in the images).

After taking some funless gravel roads we eventually made it to field where the hashpoint was. We parked on the side of the road near an opening in the fence, put on the blinkers, and started walking. It was dark and foggy and the only light we had was from our phones, which was tricky because we also used our phones for navigation. So I kept pointing my phone down to see where I was walking (through snow and rows of dead and broken corn stalks). Then had to stop and look at my phone to see where I was, then point my phone down again to continue walking.

I don't think we stopped right on the hashpoint, but I'm sure we crossed it a few times. The combination of loosing service and not being able to see where we were going made it hard (and fun!), so we took some pictures and left.

Also, this was all on Saturday night (not Friday). We didn't realize we went to Friday's hashpoint until recording our expedition on Monday morning (we are still working out the kinks in our geohashing skills).

This is the fog we were driving through:
